We shine a spotlight on Cubbies for a Cause, the inspiring creation of Kerrie Maclary. Cubbies for a Cause create custom handmade table tents using pre-loved, sustainable materials. What inspired this business?
Kerrie said “After speaking with a staff member of an op shop/thrift store, I discovered that linens are hard to sell and many end up being sold for rags. As a result, I now have a lovely little side business creating custom-ordered kids’ table tents (forts/cubbies). We use almost exclusively repurposed fabrics and donate a significant proportion of each sale to local charities that support disadvantaged families.” (source: the Upcycleit Facebook group).
Kerrie’s cubbies look amazing and she said “our creations inspire screen-free, simple, creative play."
Kerrie also said "a minimum of $50 from each table tent sale is donated to local charities that support disadvantaged families.” Cubbies for a Cause’s latest creation:
On her Facebook page, Kerrie said “we had so much fun designing and creating this Thomas Full Bells and Whistles table tent for a very precious little boy.
This one-of-a-kind cubby was created using 2 different vintage Thomas fabrics from the 80s and 90s.”
Want to order one?
Kerrie said “we often get asked for ready-made table tents, but typically only do custom orders.” Check out her Facebook page for more information.
Toy library recommendations:
We recommend that you pair one of these cubbies with the Toy Library's pretend play accessories, such as dolls, our large kitchen set (pictured left) or pretend play food, such as the picnic basket with food, or the Asian food set.
